Sky Dancer

Sky Dancer

I am an artist and I love creating images. While I was hobbling around this summer with my busted leg, I tried to fill the space as I was “taking it easy” with a few more art shoots. This is one of my favorite sessions I did during that time. I’m quite late to posting it but it’s too fun to not share.

Many thanks to my dancer model! She was such a trooper and was happy to jump over and over again for me for a crazy long time. Luckily, we made it through with just a couple scratches. hehehe  I love doing this kind of work and can’t wait to work on more artistic projects and share them with you.

I took a few quick engagement pictures of Aileen and Charlie at the Hiawatha gardens in Minneapolis. They have an extremely fun wedding planned and I am so very excited to be a part of it. There will be bowling!! I just think that’s always fun really.

Aileen and Charlie are really fun and sweet people and I was thrilled to meet them. Can’t wait to show you bridal bowling pictures!

Jessica and Chris – Como Conservatory wedding photography

The Majorie McNeely Conservatory is one of the most popular and beautiful locations in the twin cities. This wedding was set in the glorious Sunken Garden and brought together two wonderful families. It was a beautiful and emotional wedding but everyone was a bit nervous about their big day! A small event, their family and friends were all very sweet and tight knit.

They had a lot of really fun and uniquely geeky wedding details too. Check out the Star Wars theme and the dalek cake toppers! It’s always a bit of a thrill for me to have a conversation with the couple about something like IRC channels at their wedding reception.

Congratulations Jessica and Chris! It was lovely meeting you and your children.

Kirsten and Jake – St. Paul wedding photographer

This wedding had so many great moments. The groom was just so adorably awkward and they were so very in love. It made the whole experience fantastic. I absolutely loved their classic car and they were up for anything! Throw in a few fantastic locations like Como park and we had a wonderful time.

Their ceremony was at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul. We all went to Como park for their first look and some fun portraits. The Kirsten and her bridesmaid are the best of friends and they were so crazy cute together! After that, we went to Bandana Square the the Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum. They has so much fun stuff there for us to work with it was great!

Then it was back to the church for a beautiful ceremony with wonderful music provided by some of the bridal party! I love it when everyone gets involved, it’s always so beautiful and meaningful. After the ceremony it was off to the reception at The Earle Brown Heritage Center. If you’ve never been, it’s worth a stop. They’ve got quite the set up!

Kirsten and Jake had boxes of fresh flowers and strawberries on the tables and everyone brought pies to share! There was a photo booth set up and great signs along with books for people to write on. There were so many really fun details and it was all really well done. I can’t believe they made such a big direction sign for the different aspects of the reception!

Anyway, I had a hard time narrowing down pictures from this one, I hope you enjoy it!

Wedding packaging

Wedding packaging

I thought it would be fun to do a post to share what my packaging looks like. I always bring samples to my client meetings of course, but it’s nice to see them online! This is the package for the previous wedding I posted.

This is a two package disc set for a 12 hour wedding. Custom disc packaging for this wedding to span a four disc set. Kind of a bit! I’m exploring some new packing options now because files are so large. I’m working on some custom flash drive options that come in a keepsake box. It’s really a lot of fun to develop these new packaging systems!

Carol and Matt – Chicago wedding photography

I have been lucky to know Carol and Matt for many years. I’ve done portraits for Carol and she’s modeled for me several times. I was so happy for her when she got engaged! They had a long engagement and I did their engagement pictures a couple years ago.

I had to do a bit of traveling from the twin cities to the Chicago area for this wedding, but I was happy to do so for them! I was lucky enough to travel with some friends which made the journey much more pleasant. Thanks for having me! I also have to thank the bride’s family for their accommodations. I sincerely appreciate it all.

It was a bit of a whirlwind for me! I wasn’t familiar with the venues but everyone was so very helpful. I was with them the whole day and we had just a fantastic time. The reception was a fabulously great time. Everyone was dancing and there was some great salsa music!

There was a very sweet moment during the reception where Matt played a song for Carol. Everyone waved lighters and glowing cell phone screens for them. Awww! Some other highlights include: a “waiting for the bride” dance by the groom, a delightfully eccentric and nerdy officiant, a star fleet pin, home made chocolate puzzle pieces and lots of dancing!

Thank you for having me!

Pumpkins at Springbrook Nature Center

Pumpkins at Springbrook Nature Center

One last Halloween post! This year our oldest carved a pumpkin for the Halloween event at Springbrook Nature Center, “Pumpkins in the Park.” Of course that meant we had to go to see the display!

Not surprisingly, I had a wedding that  day  but made it home in time to be able to take the kids. They had such a great time! It was definitely something different for our younger kids. The youngest was asleep in the sling as we walked to the park but woke up to check everything out once we got onto the trail.

They had such a fantastic time at the event. They especially loved the pirates in the boats and all the music and dancing and Elvis!

This was quite the technical challenge for me. It was a big public event in the dark. Normally when shooting in the dark I would set up a tripod and do a long exposure but I had to shoot everything hand held on the run with a toddler strapped to my side. It was quite the adventure!

Gentleman Death – MN Halloween

Gentleman Death – MN Halloween

I absolutely love Halloween, I always have! It’s just so much amazing fun. I had several ideas for fun shoots this year and I didn’t quite have enough time to do all of them. There are always so many fun art shoots that I want to do!

I decided to try to do the makeup for this shoot myself which was an interesting challenge. We did a few trials before the actual day of the shoot and I think it worked out pretty well. It definitely reinforced my respect for makeup artists!

Thank you to my model Drake for being so patient with me, you did an amazing job! Also thank you to Virginia for providing the costuming for the shoot.

After years of work and tears and devotion, this family was finally able to adopt their son. It’s absolutely beautiful to see them finally together.

Tristan is a snuggler! He likes nothing more than being held by his mom. He has sparkling eyes and a big smile. He was  great to work with and I was thrilled to be able to meet him.

Since it is almost Halloween, we wanted to make sure we got some pictures of him in his Superman costume! It was so crazy cute. I love the cape. As his mom pointed out, Superman was adopted too. It was perfect.

Thanks for braving the studio here when it literally rained on our parade.

Lee and Andrew – Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Lee and Andrew – Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Lee and Andrew were so much fun at their engagement session I knew their wedding would be a great time. We met up at The Gale Mansion where they were getting ready and would later have their reception.

They met through their love of movies. Andrew and I planned on recreating several famous images from movies with his groomsmen! It was so much crazy fun. I’ve recreated images before so it was a familiar process for me. I included a few below. One from a movie and one from a comic. Feel free to guess which ones they’re from as I can’t exactly link to them hehe.

Lee was absolutely beautiful in her dress and sewed a small blue button into it that her mother and grandmother had worn. She and her sister were so very sweet together it made my day.

Their ceremony was held at St. Joan of Arc church in Minneapolis. They had both the church’s priest and the one from Lee’s childhood church perform the ceremony. It was a very special touch.

By the time we were back at the Gale it was definitely time to party! Everyone was dancing and had a great time.

The part you won’t see is that during this joyful celebration, Lee’s mother was unable to attend because she was very ill. There were times during the day when we would stop and send her pictures or someone would call. I think it’s an important story about how to struggle and live your life, incorporating the good and the sad.

Congratulations to Lee and Andrew, I hope your lives together continue to be beautiful and joyful.
