Lee and Andrew – Minneapolis Engagement Photography

Lee and Andrew – Minneapolis Engagement Photography

I love engagement sessions.

I know not everyone wants to do one, but they are so much fun and can be really helpful. Doing an engagement session is a great way to get to know your photographer. It also helps me know that you’re totally ok with me telling you to make fish faces at each other.

Lee and Andrew were one of the most wonderful couples I had a chance to work with this summer. We had entirely too much fun doing their engagement pictures at the Garfield Aquarium. It’s not technically an aquarium, it’s more of an electric substation. But there are fish painted on the outside! Unusual locations can really help us get unique and personal images.

Don’t worry, you’ll all get to see some of their wedding pictures too!

Fall Portrait Mini Sessions

Fall Portrait Mini Sessions

It’s that time of year again! School is starting and it’s time to book your fall portraits.

Because of my injury, I’m doing a big push for fall pictures. I usually book mini sessions for just a few days but because I’m making up for a slow season, I’m just opening it wide up. This should allow people to schedule sessions for times that are most convenient and keep my schedule full!

Fall mini sessions will be only $50. Sessions are available now through November 2012. Mini sessions are for groups of up to six people and only within the metro area or in studio. Mini sessions include a password protected online gallery. From there you may select one image from your session. I will make any final adjustments and provide the file to you with print release. You are welcome to purchase additional images, the entire session or order custom holiday cards from me.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Nicky and Rob – Minneaplis Wedding

Nicky and Rob – Minneaplis Wedding

We had a very rainy spring this year and this wedding was no exception. The only other problem was that it was unspeakably cold! They wanted to do some pictures outside but it was so cold, we had to go in rather quickly.

I was the second shooter on this wedding so I got to do a lot of different perspectives on this wedding. It was a lot of fun!

I also learned a lot of about Polish American people and traditions. It’s always interesting to learn about other people.

They were married at the Holy Cross Catholic Church and held their reception at the PNA Hall.

Congratulations Nicky and Rob!

Photographer With a Broken Leg

Photographer With a Broken Leg

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” – John Lennon

This year was going really well for a while there! Business relaunch was going well, work was picking up, networking was progressing, my 365 project was going strong…

And then one day I took my kids to go play at a local indoor play park and I broke my leg. Yes, really. Right in the middle of wedding season.

Well, more specifically I fractured my ankle in two places, re-injured an existing fracture I didn’t know about and snapped off some bone shards.

While I was in the ER I told my nurses that I had a double header that weekend for weddings and I absolutely had to be able to work. Larry, my aging hippie, veteran nurse was kind enough to not laugh right in my face.

Honestly, the whole after effects of the incident were far, far more upsetting than the injury itself. Having to sit around and do nothing is quite possibly one of the most painfully torturous things a person can go through.

Thank you to the EMTs and all the ER staff who helped me. Everyone was really wonderful and helpful. It definitely made the whole experience easier! To the medical student who did my cast, the orthopedist said you did a great job! Thank you to my friend Ian who was willing to pick up my kids even though he doesn’t really like kids, my husband for entertaining and distracting me in the ER and my MIL for watching our kids while we were out.

What’s a photographer to do while in the ER? Take pictures obviously.

Hannah and Mike – Minneapolis and St. Paul wedding photography

From our very first client meeting I was so excited to work with Hannah and Mike. They had so many different fun elements planned I knew it was going to be a blast!

I met up with them at The Hotel Minneapolis l first. I love that hotel, it’s so beautiful! We had a lot of fun in the lobby with all the amazing areas to take pictures. There were a few more I would have liked to use but we simply ran out of time!

Then it was off to the trolly! Yes, the trolly! We went along the river and made several stops for pictures including the Mill City Museum, the Stone Arch Bridge and Gold Medal Park. I tried to get them to stop and get ice cream from the ice cream truck but there wasn’t time. It’s now my goal to take a wedding party to an ice cream truck!! If you’re planning on that, I am your photographer!

Once we arrived at the always fun DS Event Center we had time for a short break before the ceremony. They had a lot of really unique accents and the wine theme was a lot of fun! Hannah had even made a “K” out of corks! During their ceremony they put letters to each other in a locked box with a bottle of wine. It’s one of my new favorite traditions.

They had a live band for the reception too! That’s always so much fun. Everyone was dancing and having a wonderful time. Hannah and Mike had a beautiful first dance and you could tell they worked had at it.

Thank you so much for having me along on your wedding! I had a blast!

As everyone knows, pets are part of the family too! One of the most exciting times is adding a new member of the family. Or two…

After wanting a Bengal cat for a very long time, this gentleman finally found some Bengal kittens available for rescue! While you’re at it, you really may as well get two I suppose!

These sisters are Zoe and Ling.

I was very lucky in that they were a bit sleepy when I arrived so they were a bit easier to photograph! Not quite as much running and climbing and dashing and chaos as is normal for a Bengal kitten. Here they are!

Chrissy and Kris – St. Paul wedding

This was one of my first weddings of the season this year. I wasn’t there for very long but I’m very glad I was able to provide photography for their wedding!

They were both so nervous before their first look it was so sweet! The kids that were in attendance were just adorable and definitely tried to steal the show in their own, sweet little way.

It was raining when we were planning on doing portraits which is always a challenge! My personal philosophy for weddings in the rain is to EMBRACE it. As much as everyone is comfortable of course. As a bonus, you’ll get some fantastic clouds after the storm! For some of the portraits I was standing in the rain, some I used the rain to create a soft background on the portraits and some have rain on my lens.

The ceremony was so sweet and everyone was just a delight to be around. After the ceremony the kids definitely cut loose!

Congratulations Chrissy and Kris! Thank you again for having me!

Dia De Los Muertos

Dia De Los Muertos

I have so many art projects I want to work on. This has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I just had a very difficult time finding a makeup artist to work with!

I happened to see some of Alley’s work and decided to ask her if she was interested. I was so very thrilled when she agreed!

I was a bit nervous on the day of the shoot and then totally overjoyed when I saw how great everything turned out! I can’t wait to work with her again.

There are so many other things I want to do, if you want to work with me, please let me know!

The R family – St. Paul portraits

I love working with all kinds of families. This was such a refreshing reminder of the fact that families come in all different shapes and sizes.

Thank you for having me in your lovely home!
